The Axel Project

Type: Single-Player ; Multiplayer

Developer: Team Axel

Released: 2nd of March, 2010 (R1)

Supports: Half-Life 2 Leak

Info:

Founded in 2009, The Axel Project aims to recreate the original leak story line as envisioned by VALVe circa 2003. Our binary patch features numerous fixes to engine stability as well as the addition of retail engine features (such as background maps, bloom).

My Contributions:

I was a level designer on the team joining during late R2 development (October 2010). My contributions were fixes/optimizations on the background maps and I believe some of the E3 levels as well. In addition, I made a trailer (see below) for R2, test levels, and some story prototypes for the ill-fated R3. I am still very grateful that Team Axel let me on board, as I was very young and inexperienced. It was a wonderful learning experience and they were very kind tutors/teammates. I left in early 2011 and released some levels from my time at TAP on my site as well, if you are interested.

Also on YouTube.

Note:

The project seems to have ceased development entirely, but all our work from R3 has been officially released. I have linked to as much as possible below. Remember, this works with the Half-Life 2 Leak, not the version you play on Steam. Also these are provided as is. If you encounter bugs, you're gonna have to try fixing them! Finally, I should mention LeakNet, for that is the modern day community patch for HL2 Beta.

And remember, while Valve is not against Half-Life 2 Leak fan projects, TAP is still sourced from an illegal leak, making it a legal grey area. In short, I do not host a copy of TAP on this site, and only link externally. Players and end-users shouldn't have to worry about this but it's still necessary to be informed on the matter.
