We wanted to finish what we started all those years ago, but with an
actual demo that is coming out in just a couple weeks!
What and When is the
Playtest?
After promising it over 12 years ago, we finally are proud to present
to you, Operation: Deathmatch! This is our formal
invitation for an upcoming playtest of our multiplayer demo for
Overturn!
Join us at the launch event this May 25th starting
at 12 PM MST / 18:00 UTC !
To be straight up with you, this isn't a "Half-Life mod" as you
traditionally know. Sure, it's all HLMDL, HLBSP, load it up as a mod and
it will "work", but the "code" and "engine" is not GoldSrc, but rather a
public test and showcase for the latest version of our powerful
Nuclide SDK on FTEQW!
What's in the Update?
13 Unique Weapons
6 Stylish Player Models
4 Classic Game Modes (DM, KOTH, CTF, INVASION)
3 Immersive maps
Tons of custom sounds and other content
Our reverse engineered Source Engine I/O, Spirit of Half-Life (WIP),
and idTech 4 decl system
We also will be revamping our pages here on ModDB and website in the
coming weeks, so stay tuned for new media and a refined story!

How to Join?
We'll post downloads here on ModDB but we also will be utilizing
FTEQW's powerful package manager to provide in-game downloadable updates
and addons. In theory, playing and installing Overturn should be as easy
as launching and clicking yes on a box!
In any case, when the big day comes we will also be posting a guide
here and on the Overturn website to answer all your questions and to
help you get fragging ASAP!

We are still very interested in providing a single player
experience, and it is finally achievable with our SDK. However, we are
all now self-employed at our own game studio, Vera Visions, and have not
only one game under our belt, but manage several other projects.
So that's why we need your help! Show us you are interested in more
Overturn! Join our chat, show up to the playtests, even try our SDK, and
spread the word!
If there is enough interest, we'll take it as a clear sign to go
ahead with SP, but you'll just have to wait and sea! (haha get
it?)

Will there ever be a
"GoldSrc" version?
Unfortunately, in order for us to achieve our vision of Overturn, we
think this is the best way forward. It also frees us from a lot of
limits and issues we ran into with GoldSrc, and at the same time, all
the content still works and runs inside Half-Life!
Thus, nothing is stopping anyone from making our upcoming release
work in GoldSrc or FWGS Xash, except time and research. We released our
Source Code years ago, and that could be used as a base. You will
however have to reimplement the weapons and the game logic (since we now
use decls/QC), but as stated all the content should just "work". We're
open to endorsing any effort post-release, but it's not something we
plan ourselves.
What is Nuclide?
Nuclide is our "Free and Open Source" SDK for idTech based games. It
is powered by FTEQW, a FOSS idTech engine, which uses the legendary
QuakeC language (community enhanced) along with the fundamentals of
idTech 4 (decls), we are bringing you a fresh approach to Half-Life
modding.
A long, long time ago... (in a ship far, far away), there was a group
of young and enthusiastic mod developers. Their passion led them to
create an (admittedly) over ambitious modification for Half-Life that
was going to do everything. It was going to have
all the weapons plus more, it was going to have new
NPCs, and "yada yada" been there, done that.
What people really seemed to like about Overturn (and we ourselves
still do) was it's "retro" approach to FPS design. Based on the past
decade of FPS games out there, or nowadays called "Boomer Shooters", it
seems you the people, have all agreed with our pitch almost 16 years
ago...
Can we call them "Overturn Shooters" instead? OK OK, is
joke!
Nowadays so many games and mods exist, we are kind of afraid to
re-enter the ring again. But we think we have something truly special
for you all to rip each other apart in!
